THE STORY BEHIND 'AGAINST ALL ODDS'
 
This painting was painted after the terrorist attacks of May 2021 throughout Israel.
 
In the painting, there is a 'peace' symbol that is shaky and about to collapse, it has cracks, spider webs, bullet holes, moss, and bird poop.
 
The "peace" symbol was first created in the 1950s in Britain as a symbol of opposition to nuclear weapons. The English designer used a military symbol of the navy and turned it upside down - to express a longing for the “opposite” of war = Peace.
 
 From England, the symbol spread to the USA and symbolized a movement of resistance to weapons of mass destruction. It gained publicity in demonstrations against the Vietnam war and was adopted by the 'Hippies' in demonstrations for peace.

In the painting, on top of the Peace statue, sits a large raven, guarding his nest, which contains eggs and a chick that hatched from it.
 
 Due to its black color and the fact that it eats carrion, in certain cultures, the raven is associated with death and dark forces, while due to its high intelligence, it has become a symbol of wisdom.
 
 In Nordic mythology, the ravens accompanied the god of wisdom.
And in Irish mythology, the ravens were associated with the Morrigan, the goddess of battle, fighting, and independence.
 
 Their wisdom is compared to that of chimpanzees and they remain faithful to their partner for life. 
 
The raven here symbolizes a guardian and protector, and the nest with the chick is a sliver of hope for a better future.
 
Hoping for better days and for the safe return of all the hostages and IDF soldiers to their homes.
