They say Venice is sinking - but what if it's just trying to make eye contact?
This painting began the way all my surreal art does: with a strong cup of coffee and a completely unhinged idea.
 
I wanted to paint Venice, but not like a postcard. I wanted something deeper... something watching you back while you admire the dome. And boom - chimpanzees.
 
Each building's water reflection hides part of a monkey’s face, emerging from the Venetian mist like the espresso-fueled guardians of the Grand Canal.
 
They’ve seen things. Gondola traffic jams. Tourists in matching hats. You, hesitating over whether to buy this painting :)
 
So yes, Venice Underwater is a love letter to Italy, apes, surreal humor, a far away dream of one day visiting Venice,  and the pure joy of seeing art that makes you do a double-take mid-sip. and
