Slow Connection is a whimsical collision of two things that were never supposed to meet: a beautifully detailed sea turtle and a vintage rotary telephone.
Painted entirely with coffee, this 12 x 9" original combines my love of animals, vintage objects, and the kind of visual humor that makes you stop and look twice :)
The turtle seems to have taken his job as telephone operator very seriously. Unfortunately, he has a tendency to take everything slowly.
The warm sepia tones of coffee naturally enhance the nostalgic character of the old-fashioned telephone, while the turtle adds just the right amount of absurdity.

The Story Behind the Painting SLOW CONNECTION
There are some childhood memories that stay with you forever.
It started with a photo of a turtle sitting on my desk.
One day, my daughter looked at it, tilted her head to the side, and asked:
“Why is he in a shape like this?”
She was looking at the turtle from the side, and suddenly his body looked exactly like the receiver of an old-fashioned telephone.
And just like that, my brain went straight back to my childhood home.
We had one telephone in the entire house.
Not one telephone per person.
Not one in every room.
ONE.
A cream-colored landline that was apparently considered sufficient technology for an entire household.
And then there was the problem with our phone number.
It was very, very similar to the number of a nearby taxi station.
Which sounds harmless…
until your phone rings at 2:00 a.m.
You pick it up, half asleep, and someone says:
“Hello, can you send a taxi to…?”
No.
I am a child in pajamas. I do not own a taxi.
So when my daughter tilted her head and made me see that turtle as a telephone receiver, I immediately had to paint it.
I love how this little piece combines three things I adore: animals, vintage objects, and ridiculous stories.
And because I painted it with coffee, the warm sepia tones seemed almost made for an old rotary phone. The turtle's shell becomes the perfect “receiver,” while all those tiny details give the whole thing the feeling of an old photograph from another time.
